Wir stellen vor: Prusa CORE One: Unser neuer, vollständig geschlossener CoreXY 3D-Drucker mit aktiver Kammer-Temperaturregelung!

Introducing the Prusa CORE One: Our new, fully enclosed CoreXY 3D printer with active chamber temperature control!

Author: Josef Průša
Source: Prusa Research

I'm very excited to finally be able to introduce the new Prusa CORE One! Not just here, with text and a 10-minute in-depth video, but also live at FormNext in Frankfurt. So if you're visiting, please stop by our stand in Hall 12.1 / Stand G39. We'd be delighted to see you and show you our new flagship aircraft!

There's so much to discover here, so let's get started!

The CORE One is a fully enclosed CoreXY 3D printer with active temperature control. It is a machine designed for quality and speed, and it is extremely robust. The complete list of technical specifications can be found [here/on the website]. on the product page , but first let me give you a detailed overview.

With the CORE One, you don't need one printer for fast prototyping, another for demanding materials, and yet another for high dimensional accuracy – it's a versatile all-in-one device. It has a compact footprint, but a large print volume (250×220×270 mm) , and there are many clever design options, e.g. an exoskeleton design For maximum strength and robustness. One of its outstanding features is that you PLA and PETG with closed doors It can print – which isn't as common as you might think. We've poured all our knowledge from developing the XL, AFS, and even the HT90 into it, and I'm pretty sure you'll be just as excited as we are! 🙂 Shipping from January 2025!

The important thing here is that The CORE One is designed to be used alongside the MK4S, He should not be his successor, and We will continue to manufacture and support the MK4S , with firmware updates and even additional accessories, such as a USB-C camera for print monitoring. If you primarily print with PLA and PETG, an open-frame printer is an excellent choice (I'll get into the how and why in a moment). The CORE One is the first model in a new product line, hence the different name. I know we only recently launched the MK4S, but with Black Friday deals and the holidays approaching, we wanted to announce our new machine before those events to avoid any sudden surprises when you unbox your MK4S a few days later, having received it over the holidays. The unveiling at Formnext was the perfect opportunity.

The development of the CORE One is now complete, and we are concluding the final testing phases, during which the Full production begins in January 2025. We are currently introducing several units in Frankfurt and are already using them CORE One -Printers in our internal print farm.

A fully enclosed 3D printer – with a twist!

We know CoreXY machines inside and out – after all, we own the Original Prusa XL and the Prusa Pro AFS. While CoreXY is considered by many to be the "next step in 3D printing," that's not necessarily true – there are some drawbacks. The MK4S still offers excellent print quality, high speeds, and easy access to all components. And as for the AFS: we couldn't simply detach the printer from it and turn it into a mass-production machine because it wasn't designed for a custom enclosure.

However, we invested heavily in researching heating chambers and cooling with the Prusa Pro HT90 and wanted to incorporate these technologies into other products as well. A closed CoreXY 3D printer is nothing new these days, therefore We had to make sure that we brought something new and useful to the table.

In developing the new machine, we focused on three main areas:

  • Well-designed exoskeleton with high-quality materials
  • Super compact chamber that can reach 55°C , with active temperature control, so that it can print everything from PLA to PA11 nylon in top quality with the door closed.
  • A new platform for the future that does not consist of a welded or glued housing that cannot be repaired.

I don't think I need to mention that we wanted to maintain our signature qualities – such as excellent print quality, long-term reliability, high-quality materials, low maintenance, and a "built to last" approach. These are probably the things you'd expect from us as standard. 🙂

The new design is based on an exoskeleton structure, which occurs frequently in nature (in crustaceans, insects), where the outer skin serves as structural support for the body. In our case, this leads to both a improved robustness of the printer as well as high efficiency in manufacturing: The same parts serve as the printer frame and also provide the final design. Unlike other printers, this is therefore not a welded cube with an enclosure, nor is it an open-frame printer in a box.

Thanks to the space-saving housing with cutouts on both sides, The super-compact chamber heats up faster to up to 55 °C. This is ideal for advanced materials (ASA, ABS, PC, nylon) that require stable, elevated temperatures. But we wanted to take the heated chamber a step further.

There are two fans on the back of the printer for one active temperature control of the chamber. When printing with PLA or PETG, the fans ensure that the internal temperature is as low as possible to guarantee maximum print quality.

And this is really important: Approximately 90 percent of all prints are made with PLA or PETG. These materials tend to perform poorly at high temperatures. Therefore, it's common practice for manufacturers (yes, us too – see the instructions for the MK4S Enclosure!) to ask you to remove the top enclosure panel and/or leave the printer door open. And frankly, the door panel then sticks out like a sore thumb, and many users aren't even aware that they should. To put it simply: leaving the doors open completely defeats the purpose and advantages of an enclosed printer.

However, the Prusa CORE One prints PLA and PETG beautifully, even with the door closed. Everything is nice and tidy. 🙂 The only thing you need to do is open a small vent on top of the printer so the fans can draw in cooler air from the room.

And one more thing about the door (as well as all other transparent panels). They are made of a high-quality polymer, so they virtually indestructible They are perfect for any workplace and also super safe for transport. We didn't want to use glass because it's simply far too fragile.

We have the printer's housing as compact as possible It was designed and various intelligent design decisions were implemented. For example, the spool is not located in a hard-to-reach place (i.e., at the back). Instead, it sits visibly in a recess on the side, so it sits perfectly flush with the side of the printer and takes up minimal space. The other recess can easily be used for all kinds of holders, organizers, and other items you design. The total space (W×D×H) you need for the CORE One is 30% smaller than the MK4S and whole 50% smaller than the MK4S in the enclosure , while the print volume will be increased by 30%!

Focused on outstanding print quality

The CORE One is equipped with our Nextrudder – and all 3D printers that have used it so far, received top marks in Print quality benchmarks . It features the improved 360° cooling of the MK4S for excellent print quality and excellent performance on overhangs This means you can use fewer (or even no) supports for your prints, saving both material and printing time.

The Nextruder has all the proven features for effortless, high-quality printing – including The extremely precise load cell sensor ensures a consistently perfect first shift. The load cell sensor doesn't rely on visual data. It can't be affected by reflective or textured surfaces, doesn't need recalibrating every time you change the nozzle or hotend, and is so accurate it can even produce a beautiful first layer on a piece of wood. You also get easy access to quick-change hotends, a high-flow nozzle as standard, and much more.

And although the MK4S was already incredibly fast and could outperform some of the fastest printers on the market, the CORE One goes even further, reducing print time by another 15–20%, depending on the type of project. However, there is one crucial advantage: you don't have to limit your projects to a small selection of special "high-speed" filaments. The CORE One is simply fast with any filament on the market, You won't find any fine print or asterisks next to our figures. It's high speed with no catches.

Thanks to its chamber that can be heated up to 55 °C, the CORE One offers incredibly good performance with a wide variety of materials. From PLA and PETG to ASA, ABS and PC, and even sophisticated materials like polyamide (nylon). In this way, the CORE One covers pretty much every area: from effortless and trouble-free printing at home to the production of rapid prototypes, durable functional parts and even end products ready to be shipped to customers.

CoreXY – Prusa Style

We have always designed our machines as workhorses for 3D printing because We also rely on them in our manufacturing. We operate a 3D printing farm with over 600 printers, and the compact design of the CORE One will allow us to fit even more machines into the same footprint. And we've done even more to make the CORE One a... to create the ultimate machine for print farms: The compact footprint is one thing, but there's more. Thanks to the rear fans, you can connect the printer to an air extraction system. The door opens 180° so it doesn't protrude and block narrow spaces or corridors. You can even reverse the hinges and the door to the other side. And the entire machine was designed with... low maintenance and long service life manufactured.

I always say that there will never be a part in our machines that's purely for design. Everything has its purpose. Most of the materials we use are infinitely recyclable and easy to recycle. They last a lifetime. For the frame, we use laser-cut steel profiles, a truly efficient yet incredibly precise manufacturing method (with tolerances of <0.1 mm). The same applies to the CoreXY gantry, which is a rectangle made from a single piece of solid steel – this makes it Incredibly stable and always at right angles . It's therefore impossible to assemble the XY axes incorrectly (believe me – we've tried).

The plastic parts are made of robust polycarbonate filled with carbon fiber. Nothing is welded; everything is connected with standard screws. You can literally take the entire printer apart with a simple screwdriver. We absolutely didn't want to compromise repairability; in fact, we significantly improved it – for example, the CoreXY function assembly can be replaced in less than 20 minutes. And what if an idler wears out after thousands and thousands of hours of printing? Then you simply loosen a few screws and replace it – also because we keep spare parts in stock for years. The design has another major advantage: it's easily scalable, allowing us incredible flexibility for future projects. It's designed to be a workhorse built to last, easy to maintain, easy to upgrade, powerful, and truly the next chapter in our industrial design.

Nevertheless, the Core ONE a true plug-and-print machine. Simply unpack, plug in, perform a one-time quick calibration, and you're ready to go – in less than 10 minutes. If you already own one of our printers, you'll feel right at home. And if you've never worked with 3D printing before, the CORE One is an incredibly easy first step into this world. It's a kind of "start-and-forget" machine where you simply start the print and the rest happens fully automatically, without any user intervention. As always, we also offer numerous Prusa Academy courses , tutorials, guides and much more.

Customize it to your liking!

Since we use real metal almost everywhere, you can easily design all kinds of holders, organizers, and shelves, and they with magnets on the side of the printer attach – The empty recess on the left is the ideal place for such projects. This also opens up a huge field for all kinds of Adjustments, modifications and optimizations. I can already imagine these printers dressed up as Claptrap from Borderlands or maybe with Star Wars motifs… I'm pretty sure we'll see some really creative ideas!

You are welcome to modify the printed components, attach new parts with magnets or screws, and generally experiment with the CORE One as much as you like. Of course, Our software and firmware are open source. so you have even more opportunities to experiment. And this is where we saw potential for improvement.

Previously, flashing custom firmware onto any of our Buddy-Board-equipped printers required breaking a special seal, which voided the warranty. No longer necessary. We are making a major positive change with the goal of making the printer even more user-friendly and motivating developers to engage with the code and implement all possible optimizations and customizations. From now on Your warranty will no longer expire, If you break the seal, you have the option to flash custom firmware. However, since we cannot check or test every single custom firmware on the internet, we disclaim all liability for any damage that a printer with a broken seal might cause. This applies to the MK4/S, XL, MINI, and also the new CORE One. So please do not perform any reckless flashing operations with suspicious files. 🙂

Expand it with add-ons!

The GPIO hackerboard The accelerometer and the accelerometer are fully compatible from the start. The GPIO module is an excellent tool for modders, hackers, and tinkerers who like to add new features to their 3D printers. It connects to the xBuddy board's I2C port and allows you to control and receive input from external devices. You can create a trigger for your camera and slider to take precise time-lapse photos, control external LED lighting, control servos, and much more—whatever you want! You can configure all commands directly in PrusaSlicer.

The accelerometer is not required for our factory-tuned machines, but it is useful for all printer developers and modders. With it, you can determine the resonant frequency of a individual printhead Simply measure and recalibrate your Input Shaper to the optimal values.

And there will be even more accessories: We are currently finalizing the development two filter types (HEPA filter and advanced filtration system) as well as a dry box As soon as this accessory is available, we will send out a newsletter.

Furthermore, you can rely on full support for the most efficient single-nozzle multi-color solution, the MMU3. The unit is fully compatible with the Prusa CORE One and allows you to print beautiful, colorful objects with up to five filaments simultaneously. Unlike other multifilament printers that can produce a surprising amount of waste (sometimes almost as much as the weight of your printed object), our printer uses an innovative, compact cleaning tower to manage filament changes. This not only reduces wasted filament but also minimizes the waste to a single, clean block.

Introducing the Buddy3D camera

We also introduce the Prusa CORE One a new optional camera one, which will be released under our new brand Buddy3D. Buddy3D will encompass all kinds of 3D printer accessories from third-party suppliers, but entirely under our supervision and control. This also applies to the camera. It will be available as a small module that is inserted into the CORE One's chamber and connected to the mainboard via a USB-C cable. The camera's firmware was developed under our strict supervision, so we can guarantee 100% safety.

The camera should be ready in the same timeframe as the Prusa CORE One, so stay tuned – we will give you the opportunity to edit your order and add the camera if you order the printer before the camera is available.

The same camera, albeit in a different housing, will also be available for the MK4S and the XL.

Please note that the camera requires an active Wi-Fi connection and must be fully integrated. Prusa Connect and the Prusa App is integrated.

Seamless workflow, 100% security

When we launched the Original Prusa MK2 years ago, it was a pretty big deal to include a custom slicer and factory-tested print profiles. Then we added Prusament in addition. And Prusa Connect . And Printables , Prusa App, Academy

With the Prusa CORE One, you now receive a ticket to the entire "Prusaverse" :-). Everything you need is under one roof. You can download hundreds of thousands of free 3D models from Printables.com – in fact, you can send them directly to PrusaSlicer with a single click, slice them, and send them over the network for instant printing. You can use our Remote print management system Use Prusa Connect or the native iOS/Android Prusa app if you want to monitor your prints remotely – however, this is entirely optional. If you prefer, you can still use a standard USB flash drive to transfer files.

All the high-quality filaments we manufacture in-house have their own profiles in PrusaSlicer, but we also prepare profiles for a wide variety of third-party filaments (over 200 in total) so you always get the best performance, no matter which material you choose. You don't need to be a professional to achieve professional results.

And safety is always our top priority. We will never force you to connect your printer to the network—not for initial setup, not for firmware updates, not for slicing. Never. And you'll still get the full experience. You can even disconnect the Wi-Fi module to create the most secure workspaces. It's entirely up to you whether you want to connect a USB-C camera for print monitoring, add your printer to Prusa Connect, or monitor your prints with the Prusa app. Our code is open source, so You can conduct an independent audit at any time. and can verify that we are not manipulating or stealing your files, even when you are not connected to the internet. You can sleep soundly knowing that the product you are working on won't suddenly appear on Temu. 😉

One more thing…

One thing I haven't mentioned yet: upgrade kits. Our machines have always had an upgrade path; you could always update your existing model to the latest version. Now, if you look at the new Prusa CORE One, you'll see that it's a completely different machine compared to the MK4S. Fully encapsulated with CoreXY kinematics, a much larger print volume, and so on. And yet... We have made it possible to upgrade your current MK4S to the CORE One with a conversion kit . So you are essentially transforming one product line into another.

The Prusa CORE One Conversion Kit It's cheaper than the MK3S->MK4 upgrade kit and allows you to fully convert your MK4S into the CORE One without compromise. We're aiming for a release date in March 2025 with an estimated price of 449 USD (excluding VAT) / 489 EUR (including VAT).

The conversion can only be performed using MK4S parts, not MK4 parts, as all components of the MK4S upgrade kit are also used for the conversion. Therefore, if you purchase the MK4S as part of the upcoming Black Friday special offer, you will receive it immediately and can later upgrade it to the CORE One.

This also means that The CORE One offers excellent backward compatibility. You probably know what it's like when a new device, like a phone, comes onto the market – it's cool, but also a bit inconvenient because you have to buy a new case, maybe the charging port is different so you need a new cable, and so on. The CORE One uses the same build plates as the MK3/MK4, and also hotends, nozzles, and other proven parts from the MK4S. This is extremely convenient if, for example, you use dozens of our printers in your print farm, as it significantly reduces the initial investment! We know that many of our customers have purchased additional build plates and nozzles, and we wanted to make sure they would all still fit.

And yes, even though the printer may look like a massive monolith, will it also be a Give away the Prusa CORE One mounting kit! Assembling your own printer remains an extremely popular option, as it provides a complete understanding of how a 3D printer works. And this isn't just for hobbyists. Many companies purchase assembly kits alongside pre-assembled printers so their employees can learn all the details. And the CORE One is even easier to assemble than the MK4S.

I know you're curious about when the kits will be available, as this could influence your business plans or purchasing decisions in the near future. We've done our best to provide the most accurate estimates. However, please bear in mind that these are indeed estimates and are subject to change. For example, the shipping date for the kits is heavily influenced by demand for the assembled version (since both use the same parts). With all that in mind, our current estimate for the assembly kits is... April 2025 and the expected price is 949 USD (excluding VAT) / 1049 EUR (including VAT). We'll keep you updated!
And finally the Prusa CORE One assembled: Shipping begins in January 2025 with an introductory price of 1199 USD (excluding VAT) and 1349 EUR (including VAT). Visit our online shop to learn more and see detailed technical specifications. We will announce further details about accessories via our newsletter.

So this is the CORE One. A fully enclosed, fast CoreXY 3D printer designed for quality, printing PLA and PETG with the door closed. We spent a lot of time making the design future-proof and modular, so we can use it as a base for upgrades in the coming years, like my i3 design.

Have fun printing!

Jo Prusa
