Think big, print bigger: Introducing the Prusa CORE One L!

Think Biggger ... Core One L

Author: Josef Průša
Source: Prusa Research

In the announcement of the Prusa CORE One, I wrote that "it is easily scalable – which allows us to be incredibly flexible in future projects." Today I'm excited to show you what that means. Introducing the Prusa CORE One L.

This is our new large-format, enclosed CoreXY 3D printer, And it's the bigger sibling of the tried-and-tested Prusa CORE One, essentially an extension of the family. We know that one size doesn't fit all. Some tasks are fine with a compact footprint, while others demand sheer size. The CORE One L is for any engineer tired of printing large parts piece by piece, for any prop master who wants to print a helmet in one go, and for pretty much any creative professional who wants to get the most out of advanced materials.

The CORE One L strikes the perfect balance between large print volume and printer footprint. You no longer need to spend hours slicing and gluing your models together. And what used to require six separate prints can now be done in two. But the really cool part is how we did it. The CORE One L is only 10% larger than the CORE One, but offers 200% print volume. And it still fits on your desk! It's spacious on the inside and compact on the outside.

Furthermore, for the first time, we are offering a special version for critical infrastructure directly in our online shop. Production is already in full swing, and we have sent the first devices to reviewers. You can order your CORE One L right here.

And there are some surprises under the hood! Curious? Let's take a look!

The 6 best things about the CORE ONE L

As always, I started with a short, concise article. Then I delved into the technical details. And from then on, things moved very quickly. So let me first give you an overview of the most important things before I elaborate on convection airflow 🙂

1. Fits on a table, print volume ~30 liters / 1 cubic foot, runs on standard electricity

The pressure volume is 300×300×330 mm – plenty of space for large, durable, one-piece models. The chamber goes up to 60°C, creates the perfect environment for many advanced materials.

2. AC convection heated bed with <2°C variance over 99% of the surface

Nothing beats a solid block of aluminum. Plus, we have dual-loop heating, ensuring wonderfully even heat distribution with a deviation of less than 2% across 99% of the surface, preventing warping and cold spots. Two fans on the underside of the heated bed (paired with two air guide plates) ensure rapid heating of the chamber.

3. 60°C heated chamber with intelligent temperature management and exhaust vent for HVAC or filtration

A true "start-and-forget" device. The CORE One has already done a lot to automate chamber temperature, but this device goes a step further with the automatic opening and closing of the upper ventilation opening. Furthermore, the new heat distribution system heats up the chamber much faster.

4. High-quality, high-speed printing with YOUR materials, not just ours.

An original Bondtech 🇸🇪 CHT nozzle is already pre-installed. It was designed for high flow rate with all filaments Developed with this in mind, because speed is meaningless if you can't use the materials you've already tested and qualified for production. The special internal geometry melts the filament faster through optimized heat transfer. A wear-resistant nozzle for abrasive materials is included with every printer.

5. Unpack and print! Factory pre-calibrated.

The CORE One L is only available as a fully assembled printer. It comes fully pre-calibrated from the factory, including phase stepping and input shaper (more on that later). When you unpack it, simply select your preferred language and complete an optional connection wizard. It's a complete package including a 1080p camera, two nozzles, a comprehensive Prusa Academy course, and more.

6. Security-ready for critical infrastructures

Our printers have always been security-oriented – embedded platform, open-source firmware, detachable wireless modules and cameras, encrypted flash drive as an optional extra, and offline-first design. We believe that security is more important today than ever before, which is why We are introducing new security options.

Double the volume, not double the size

When we started this project, the goal was clear on paper: a massive increase in print volume, BUT without a massive increase in the machine's footprint. Anyone can make a machine bigger, but that just makes it heavy and bulky. We wanted to avoid building a monster that needed its own room and a forklift to move.
The problem is that making things bigger almost always means making them heavier. That was a compromise we weren't willing to make. We kept the massive, laser-cut steel profiles of the CORE One's exoskeleton – that was non-negotiable. With that in mind, we set out to find every single gram we could shave off elsewhere without sacrificing the stable and robust design.

The side panels are now made of lightweight aluminum. (They have lost their magnetic properties, but we have added mounting holes for user modifications), the bottom part has been completely redesigned, and more. All in all, the The CORE One L is only 10% larger than the CORE One AND 0.5 kg lighter. The large 300x300 heated bed perfectly fills the chamber without requiring any additional space. The print volume is approximately 30 liters (1 cubic foot), and the printer is still Built like a tank to withstand the chaos of a busy workshop and to run around the clock without breaking a sweat.

The Heat is On: Our new convection AC heated bed

The biggest innovation of the CORE One L, and the key to reliable large-format printing, is the Brand new heated bed. We went back to the drawing board to to solve the main problem that plagues large prints : uneven heating and cold corners, which lead to deformations and failed prints.

We knew that there could be no compromises and no expense spared to achieve perfect, even heat. When it comes to thermal stability, Nothing beats a proper, thick block of aluminum. So we used exactly that. The heated bed is made of cast metal, precision-milled to be perfectly flat, and features an integrated dual-loop heating element. This design delivers incredibly even heat across the entire surface. The temperature deviation is less than 2 °C on 99% of the printed area.

What does that mean for you? No more cold spots. You no longer need to worry about placing your model in the correct position. You can truly print edge-to-edge and be confident that your model will stay in place without lifting or warping. And although this heated bed is much larger compared to the CORE One, it heats up 25% faster.

Effortless printing of advanced materials

But that wasn't all. For the first time with a Prusa printer We also use the underside of the heated bed to actively heat the chamber. We have attached two fans there, which... forced convection effect They generate air by drawing it from the chamber and blowing it across the massive, hot surface of the underside of the heated bed. Two specially designed air guide vanes then redirect this hot airflow and distribute it evenly within the chamber. This is a surprisingly effective process. efficient and fast method to print the entire print volume to heat up to 60 °C. The chamber also has an exhaust vent with the option of installing a filter or air conditioning system to assemble.

This stable, heated environment is key to trouble-free printing of high-performance materials such as ABS, ASA, nylon, and polycarbonate. It ensures perfect layer adhesion and prevents parts from cracking. We anticipate that advanced materials will be the most popular choice for the CORE One L. For this reason We supply both a genuine Bodtech high-flow nozzle and a wear-resistant nozzle.

You can:

  • Printing parts from ABS and ASA that are exposed to UV rays and harsh sunlight
  • Quickly iterate holders and fixtures made of PETG
  • Print large, flexible parts for extreme wear resistance from TPU

We also offer chemically resistant and ESD-safe materials, radiation-shielding polymers, and much more. I think the excellent support for PLA goes without saying – and you can still print it with the printer door closed 🙂

We also have the filament feed for the Easier insertion of flexible materials Modified – flip a switch to create a low-resistance path for flexible filaments.

The CORE One already featured active chamber temperature control, which essentially created the best possible environment for the chosen print job. However, there was a drawback. Due to the printer's compact dimensions, we were unable to implement an automatic ventilation grille function. With the CORE One L, we have now made this possible. If you select a low-temperature material (e.g., PLA or PETG), The printer automatically opens the upper vent via a lever on the extruder. The vent is automatically closed when materials reach high temperatures.

With the CORE One L, you really don't have to worry about a thing. Simply load the material and start printing. If you plan to print with materials that produce a higher number of particles, we also offer an optional HEPA filter system.

Full power, no 110V compromises

This heated bed is a clever piece of technology that we're really proud of, so let me delve a little deeper. One of the most important aspects for a manufacturer is to produce as few variations of a component as possible – simpler production and distribution, easier quality assurance, and also much less headaches for the user.

One thing I really want to emphasize is the Heated bed solution for handling different mains voltages worldwide. Normally, manufacturers produce different, often weaker, components for 110V regions. This is not the case here.

Our energy management system is now significantly more intelligent. Instead of a simple binary check, it offers a Comprehensive power monitoring is achieved by analyzing the complete voltage waveform in real time. This allows the printer to automatically distinguish between 110V and 230V networks and intelligently adjust the heated bed. Configure for consistent performance anywhere in the world by connecting the heater either in series or in parallel. Thanks to this detailed analysis, the firmware can also filter out minor power fluctuations, virtually eliminating false triggers for a power outage and increasing pressure reliability.

We have a multi-layered AC safety architecture The system, which forms the core of the printer, actively monitors for fault currents – similar to a residual current device (RCD) in a household – and immediately interrupts the power supply if a leak is detected. This is supported by a redundant switching concept that uses both a relay and a TRIAC. If one switching component fails, the other ensures a Hardware failover to interrupt the power circuit. This approach is physically reinforced by a shielded cable for the AC heated bed, which provides an additional robust protective layer.

So, that's it for the heated bed (at least for now). We need to move on. No more uneven areas, no more cold spots – the best possible print quality. Which brings me to…

Precise, production-ready parts

Yes, it's a ubiquitous topic. Every printer manufacturer talks about print quality. That's why I want to explain exactly what we've done to take the next big step towards perfecting our 3D prints.

We use everything that's included with the CORE One works perfectly – things that the printer offers numerous advantages Awards for print quality have contributed. Thanks to its rigid CoreXY kinematics and an extruder with 360° cooling The CORE One L can also impress 75° overhangs This drastically reduces the need for supports, saving you time, materials, and cleaning effort. And if you do need them, ours are Organic supports in PrusaSlicer The best soluble supports available – they are efficient, reliable and incredibly easy to remove, leaving hardly any trace.

Recently we were on a mission to perfect print quality . We have our deep dives published on combating VFAs (Vertical Fine Artifacts), and all of this research has been incorporated into the CORE One L. The new PrusaSlicer feature called “Consistent Surfaces” It delivers a production-quality finish directly from the print bed. By optimizing path planning and speeds, we have the VFAs optimized and the ugly shiny and matte stripes It eliminates flaws that can ruin the appearance of a print. Your objects look so good, that you can often use them as end products, without the expensive and slow process of injection molding.

Left – Black PETG with Consistent Surfaces OFF / Right – Black PETG with Consistent Surfaces ON

Of course, appearance is nothing without precision. Anyone who has ever designed parts that need to fit together knows that dimensional accuracy is paramount. We've proven with CT scans that our machines deliver on this promise – your models will look exactly as you designed them. As we like to say: What you design is what you get. 🙂

Left: CORE One L / Right: CoreXY competitor – the more the color deviates from green, the greater the inaccuracy.

And you don't have to compromise on speed for this quality. Thanks to its robust construction, two special nozzles included in the package, With its factory-set input shaper and internally developed print profiles, the CORE One L is just as fast as the CORE One. The firmware also includes our A new method for belt tuning using a stroboscopic effect . Of course, the printer is pre-calibrated at the factory, but if you need to tighten the belts after thousands of printing hours, you can find the perfect sweet spot in two minutes.

For those who are serious about it

Every part of the Prusa CORE One L was designed with a single philosophy: Making printing completely effortless. This makes it the perfect tool to speed up production, whether you are a single engineer, run a large print farm, or are simply looking for a way to print large, robust, and durable models in one piece.

The fact that you don't have to adapt to a new system is a huge advantage in a professional environment. Unpack, plug in, and get started. There's no complex calibration or lengthy training for new employees. You can have a new device working for you in minutes. Simply select a language for the user interface and decide whether to connect the printer to your network. The path from professional CAD software such as SolidWorks, Autodesk Fusion, or even directly from STEP files to a physical part has never been shorter. And with Prusa Connect, you can manage everything remotely – monitor prints, schedule jobs, and even track ongoing costs and ROI.

With every CORE One L, you also receive a comprehensive online course from the Prusa Academy, providing a perfect overview of operating, printing, and maintaining your device. Ideal for getting to know your printer better, but also for educational settings or onboarding new employees.

More printing, less downtime

Since we operate a huge printing farm with more than 600 machines in-house, All our machines are designed to run around the clock. Our printing farm still has its place and its purpose, although we also More and more parts are being injection molded We manufacture them – especially in areas where we don't need to be so flexible. Nevertheless, our printing press has never been a bottleneck in our production.

Thanks to the larger volume of the CORE One L, you can not only print larger parts, but also transform the overall efficiency of your operation. The success of a business depends not only on reliability, but also on autonomy – on operator actions and downtime. Every time a print job is finished, an operator has to collect the parts and start the next job. A larger print area means fewer interventions.

The data speaks for itself. Consider a storage area of 500 cm horizontally by 300 cm vertically:

The calculation is performed using a simple PCCF bracket. Operator action = 10 minutes for bed cooling, harvesting, surface maintenance, nozzle inspection, and starting a new print job.

A 1080p camera with night vision is included in the package. And you are free to decide whether you want to install them. You can use them to manage your printouts via Prusa Connect / Prusa App to monitor or simply to create time-lapse videos.

Easy maintenance

This brings me to another important point: We have always designed our printers to be They are easy to care for and maintain. Open-frame printers like the MK4S are the best example of this, but we have paid particular attention to bringing the same level of user-friendliness to the CORE One family.

The nozzle can be replaced in 30 seconds. Or you can even replace the entire heating element (nozzle plus heating element) in about a minute – remove the cover, loosen the knurled screws, disconnect two plugs. You don't even need to preheat the nozzle. And because we use LoadCell technology, the printer doesn't need to be restarted after a nozzle replacement. will not need to be recalibrated .

As usual, nothing is welded or glued together. I often joke with my team that the printer should always be repairable with a hammer and a screwdriver – but that's just one manifestation of our goal to build a repairable device. You can actually take the entire CORE One L apart with a simple screwdriver.

We guarantee the availability of spare parts for at least five years. And last but not least, we have our 24/7 technical support in seven languages, staffed by experienced employees – no AI bots. They are always speaking to a human being.

Our ecosystem: Open, secure, optional

If you choose one of our printers, you can into our ecosystem Integrate – we have a complete set of tools and services to cover all your needs. The feature-rich PrusaSlicer (which also serves as the basis for many other slicers on the market), Connect for remote management and monitoring of printing, the official App for iOS/Android Prusament Academy courses (one is bundled with the CORE One L) and of course Printables with over one million models to select.

And if you EasyPrint If you haven't tried it yet, you're missing out. This is our new online slicer that works everywhere – on your smartphone, tablet, or web browser. It's incredibly powerful, easy to use, and most importantly: It's a true slicer. You can adjust, clone, and rotate your models in real time. And then, with just a few clicks (or taps), the file is wirelessly transferred to your printer from anywhere in the world. That's a real game-changer.

All of this is, of course, optional. If you prefer, you can keep the printer completely offline, use other slicers, and retrieve print files from anywhere. You have full control. We believe that the hardware you buy belongs to you, not just a license to use it.

Safety first

We take security very seriously. All connections of the CORE One L are 100% optional. You never need to connect the device to the internet, not even during the initial setup. If you want a completely offline-capable device, you can even unplug the Wi-Fi module, and it will work perfectly. And the firmware is open-source, so you can view the full source code at any time.

But we know that even this isn't enough for certain situations. In fact, we already had a special air-gapped version of the XL in a "secret menu".

The new device has this version generally available from the start.

We present to you the Prusa CORE One L: Critical Infrastructure Edition This is a special package for companies, government agencies, and the defense sector where data security is non-negotiable. This edition includes: a custom-made motherboard without Wi-Fi circuitry. We also offer an encrypted, certified USB drive and provide certificates of conformity to meet strict security requirements.

We manufacture our own electronics for all our printers. on our own PCB production line right here in our factory. We are also proud that the CORE One L is available in both Prague, EU, as well as Delaware, USA, manufactured, which brings production closer to our customers.

And finally, this is our first printer since receiving our ISO certifications We issue ISO 9001:2015 certifications for quality management, environmental management (ISO 14001:2015), and occupational health and safety (ISO 45001:2018). These certifications are verified proof of our commitment to quality, reducing our environmental footprint, and caring for our team.

Improved spools & Open Print Tag Standard

These things go hand in hand, and we have a Special items and a A dedicated website that deals with this topic.

I think I speak for many here when I say that Nobody really likes 2D printers. – the ink keeps running out and it seems that The cartridges contain more electronics and manufacturer-specific chips than actual ink. And everyone uses a different standard. Sure, we don't have to like 2D printers… but sometimes they're just unbearable. That's why we were especially cautious when we started thinking about putting NFC tags in Prusament spools. We didn't want to go down the same annoying path of vendor lock-in. Besides, NFC tags in spools aren't anything new, so why bother? Because There is no usable and reliable standard that works with all brands.

And we intend to change that.

From now on, every new Prusament spool will be equipped with a fully rewritable NFC tag It is delivered based on the OpenPrintTag standard. It is designed to work across brands and systems; it is Completely open source, reusable, inexpensive and works entirely offline. All important data is stored directly on the tag. Your printer can instantly recognize the spool without relying on cloud services. It's a truly and genuinely OPEN standard. And we understand: it's always difficult to convince other companies to take the plunge and be the first. That's why we, as one of the world's largest filament manufacturers The first step – soon thousands upon thousands of Prusament coils will be NFC-enabled. It's a huge undertaking, but we believe we've grown enough to make a difference. And the list of interested companies and groups is already quite impressive!

How does the CORE One L fit into all of this? We'll be discussing the optional features shortly. Open Print Tag Spool Holder Introducing these spool holders for the MK4S, XL, CORE One, and CORE One L. recognizes The printer every time you place a spool on the spool holder, The material immediately. And you can take the tag, rewrite it, and put it on a different spool. Plus, we have the best technology on the market: 360° Read/Write and NFC performance so good that It even works on large 2kg spools. You can also scan the coils with your mobile phone and see a detailed description on the internet.

Read more about it here .

The next step

We have a clear roadmap with enhancements that will create added value for years to come. First, the CORE One L is fully prepared for the MMU3, our fast and efficient solution for printing with up to five filaments simultaneously. The MMU3 for the CORE One L will be available in January 2026.

A future firmware update will... Pressure plate detection This allows the printer's camera to scan a QR code on the sheet to ensure you're using the correct sheet. I've already read about this. Open Print Day and the special NFC-enabled coil holder. And of course, you can rest assured that new firmware versions will bring new features and possibilities.

A few weeks ago, I tweeted about our collaboration with Bondtech on a new multi-material solution called INDX. The CORE One with INDX will be presented at FormNext 2025 in Frankfurt – we look forward to sharing more details with you soon.
