The Prusa CORE One stands out for its versatility, but when integrated with the Bondtech INDX multi-tool system it becomes an advanced platform for high-performance multicolor and multimaterial printing. Available in 4-tool or 8-tool kits, this system allows the simultaneous management of multiple filaments without manual intervention, accelerating workflows and minimizing material waste. The printer gains the ability to switch between specialized nozzles in seconds, boosting productivity in professional environments.

The Bondtech INDX system is based on a Smart Head designed to centralize all active components—extrusion motor, electronics and induction coil (“IN”)—while the passive tools act as ultra-light nozzles with an internal filament channel. This architecture reduces moving mass (around only 345 g), simplifies integration and allows the system to be expanded with additional nozzles without adding extra electronic components. During operation, the Smart Head moves along the X/Y axes to the required tool and couples to it via a mechanical and magnetic system. Thanks to induction heating, the passive nozzle reaches its printing temperature within seconds, benefiting from its minimal thermal mass. The whole process takes about 16 seconds. This is complemented by the Dynamic Extruder (DX), which automatically adjusts filament pressure according to the material, ensuring optimal push force and eliminating manual tuning even with flexible or technical filaments. The combination of a hotendless design and instant heating drastically reduces waste during color changes, since the nozzle cools immediately after decoupling, enabling clean and precise transitions.

Tool-change process
The material change is executed extremely quickly following these steps:
- The Smart Head moves to the required passive tool and couples via a high-precision magnetic system.
- The induction coil is activated and, within seconds, the nozzle reaches the target temperature to begin extrusion.
- The Dynamic Extruder automatically adjusts pressure according to the loaded material, allowing the print to continue immediately with the new filament.
- Once finished, the head decouples, the nozzle cools almost instantly and the system is ready to select the next tool.
This process is highly efficient, avoiding the long heating times of traditional thermal blocks. The result is clean, precise transitions and a notable reduction in filament waste.

The 4-tool and 8-tool configurations share the same Smart Head, differing only in the number of passive nozzles included. The 4-tool kit is suitable for standard multicolor prints or projects requiring fewer materials, while the 8-tool kit significantly expands the range of possibilities, allowing combinations of rigid filaments, flexible filaments, support materials or advanced compounds. Both versions are fully scalable, as passive nozzles have a low cost, making it easy to start with one kit and expand as project requirements grow.

The ability to manage 4 or 8 materials in a single print job enables advanced configurations combining colors, elastomers, technical materials or soluble supports. Although total price increases with the number of tools included, the cost per additional nozzle is significantly lower than adding complete extruders, making INDX a cost-effective solution for production and professional prototyping. The 4-tool kit offers optimal performance for basic multicolor projects, while the 8-tool kit is intended for complex prints requiring frequent material changes or the integration of filaments with differentiated properties.

Overall, the Bondtech INDX system introduces significant advances in high-end printing: it enables ultrafast filament changes without extensive purging, optimizes work with multiple materials (PLA, ABS, TPU, technical composites, etc.) and provides consistent performance thanks to induction heating and the DX extruder. Its passive-nozzle approach reduces costs and, together with instant cooling, prevents stringing or dripping between changes, significantly improving the final print quality.
The Bondtech INDX transforms the Prusa CORE One into a high-level multicolor printer: it combines the agility of a full tool-changer with the economic efficiency of passive nozzles. Available in 4-tool or 8-tool kits, it offers fast, stable and nearly waste-free printing.
